Mark A. Payler

Mark A. Payler is a Colorado-based photographer whose work centers on light as both structure and narrative—shaping landscapes, revealing abstraction in urban environments, and capturing the fleeting energy of live performance. He earned his BFA in Photography from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

His photographic practice spans multiple long-form collections, including Sculpted Light (slot canyon abstractions), and Reflections (urban glass and perception).

In 2026, his project Signed on the Mother Road: Polaroid Portraits from Route 66 is currently being exhibited as The Polaroid Man at the National Route 66 Museum as part of the Route 66 Centennial, presenting a large-scale installation of signed Polaroid portraits collected across the historic route.

Payler’s work has been featured in A Day in the Life of America, Popular Photography (50th Anniversary issue), and Route Magazine. He has also completed extensive commissioned installations for the Bank of Colorado, producing large-format photographic works across multiple branches.

With a background in graphic design and visual communication, his photography is rooted in composition, restraint, and intentionality—creating images that are both immediate and enduring.
